| Paul Murphy IJ RIP Paul has served Irish sailing as a National Umpire and National Judge for many years and in 2002 was appointed by ISAF to serve as an International Judge. He is well known to almost all sailors in Ireland having worked both on the water and ashore in his role as Judge for many classes. He is particularly well known for his work with the Laser and J/24 Class Associations and attended many of their National, European and World championship regattas. Paul was assiduously fair in his interpretation and application of the Racing Rules of Sailing and frequently would go out of his way to help a young sailor to understand why he gave him a penalty. Along with his roles as an Umpire and Judge he served on the ISA Racing Rules Appeal Board and also on the ISA Tribunal. He was a member of the National Yacht Club and Royal Alfred Yacht Club where he served as Vice Commodore until earlier this year and was particularly pleased to be involved in the Alfred’s 150th anniversary celebrations in 2007. He will be missed his many friends in Ireland and around the world. Ed A ISA
